The HESS work in the Nammo Group is given very high priority in order to reduce the risk of personal injuries, environmental damages and damages on production equipment and buildings. All accidents with absence and serious near-accidents are reported and discussed. Monthly reports are sent to all sites for information and actions. HESS audits from Corporate are performed at all sites.
During the last years, Nammo has focused on proactive work, risk analysis, incidents with actions to prevent accidents, training and education.
Every year there are a HESS seminar that gathers several top leaders and HESS responsible personnel to share good ideas and make improvements in Nammo. 
Security issues concerning threats of terror have been evaluated. All sites review routines and plans for catastrophes and evacuation plans. Realistic training and simulation is performed and reported.

Nammo AS has signed a Partner agreement in the EU-program EUExNet with the aim to build a European network for transnational cooperation for training and education of workers in the explosive sector. Nammo has since 2003 participated in the EUExcert partnership. The projects are a cooperation between partners in Sweden, United Kingdom, Finland, Italy, Latvia, Estonia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Malta and Norway. The Partners represent the explosives industry, universities, trade unions, consultants, organizations for vocational training and authorities.

The EUExcert program provides a comprehensive framework, which describes and categorizes all of the competences of workers engaged in the manufacture or use of explosives in the industries. The aim for Nammo is to improve training and education programs and to increase competence needed to ensure reductions of accident.
